Remember - while we gladly accept anonymous travel tips without photos across our site, to be eligible for the contest you must have a relevant accompanying photo and a contact email with your tip. Once your travel tip submission is approved, you will be notified by email with a direct link so you can let all your friends & family know to vote on your entry!

Top Travel Guide Contest Rules, etc:

Entries:

Our Top Travel Guide contest runs on a month-to-month basis provided we get more than 3 entries in a month. If we get fewer than 3 entries in a month, those entries automatically roll into the next month until the minimum is reached at which point the contest will end at the end of that month. Entries are included based on the month in which they go 'live'. Votes are tallied during that same period. Winners are announced in the Newsletter each month and are notified by email (so make sure you include your email in your submission and to subscribe to the Newsletter). Depending on my travel schedule, there is sometimes a backup in processing new submissions (especially if they're very numerous that month) so watch your inbox for confirmation of your acceptance. Also, be patient as it can sometimes take till the middle of the month for me to get the newsletter out, but be assured that I cut off the 'voting' tallies at the last day of the month.

Prizes:

Prizes differ from month to month. Check the monthly competition page to find out what the current prize is.

Honors:

Becoming a Top Travel Guide is truly an honor and comes with corresponding privelages and special cool stuff. All Top Travel Guides receive:

1. A personal biography and listing on our "Top Travel Guides" page with a link to your blog, website, or whatever your do for a living and a nice biography about you. You will be contacted for information for this page via email if you're a winner.
2. A "I'm a Top Travel Guide" badge for you to display on your blog or website
3. A cool mention in the monthly newsletter.
4. Bragging rights

To Enter:

Entering the Top Travel Guide contest is easy! Simply submit a GREAT travel tip anywhere on our site and include a relevant photo to be eligible to win - only entries with contact emails can be entered in the contest because we need to be able to get a hold of you to give you your prize if you win! Entries are reviewed by Susan (the site editor) and when they're approved and sent live, they'll appear on our contest page for that month.

Be aware that processing can sometimes get backlogged and that you will be entered in the competition for the month your entry goes live. I try to get them all caught up right after the start of the month and leave off the last week so that you have the most amount of exposure time. If you're concerned that your entry hasn't been approved yet, you can use the Contact Me form to get in touch with me.

Multiple entries are fine, in fact encouraged. You can win multiple months if you're consistently chosen by the visitors. If this becomes a problem, I might set a limit on the number of times you can win - until then, play on!

Voting:

Voting is done by site visitors by choosing your "star" rating as they comment on your post. Ratings are calculated based on the average star rating and rounded to the nearest 1/2 star. Winners are determined by the highest "star" rating. If there is a tie for the highest "star" rating (ie: 5 entries have 5 stars) then the one with the most comments will win - basically because it's much harder to retain that many stars over a larger number of voters. So get as many people to comment on your page as possible!
